Ingredients

  • 5 Wellshire Premium Beef Franks
  • 3/4 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Directions

  1. In a bowl, combine dry ingredients cornmeal, flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and sugar.
  2. Whisk the egg and buttermilk together.
  3. Mix wet and dry ingredients together and stir until combined.
  4. Skewer hot dogs with sticks, with enough of the stick showing to grasp onto.
  5. Add vegetable oil in a large pot, enough to cover the hot dogs. Heat to 350 degrees F.
  6. Pour combined batter into tall container and dip each hot dog into the batter, making sure it’s covered entirely.
  7. Lower into the hot oil and cook for about 3 minutes or until golden brown. Once done lift out and set aside to drain oil.
  8. Continue with each hot dog until they are all coated in batter and fried.
