I noticed that some of your products have no water added. How is that beneficial?
Having no water added to our products is beneficial for several reasons. First, in our packages you are getting more meat for your money. If even 10% water was added to the package, that would be 10% less meat product you are buying. Secondly, in our packages, you get more meat to eat. This also means more protein is being absorbed. Thirdly, the meat is not diluted in any way. Lastly, when our meat products are cooked, there is no excess water, so the product just simmers in its own natural juices and seasoning.
Is there MSG in any of your products?
No, there is no added MSG in any of our products. Some people argue that the autolyzed yeast in some of our products is MSG. Autolyzed Yeast is a naturally occurring ingredient. The USDA does not define this as MSG.
What does "uncured" and "cured" mean?
As per the USDA definition, any cooked meat items that contain sodium nitrate are considered cured items. The purpose of curing is to preserve food products and ensure they are safe over the course of their shelf life. Uncured products achieve curing at the same safety level, using alternative ingredients like celery powder, swiss chard, and sea salt. We at Wellshire only use these alternative curing ingredients in our products.
Is there casing on your hot dogs?
Our frankfurters have no casing.
How can some ingredients (like sugar) be listed in a product, when the Nutrition Facts Panel shows that the product contains 0 grams per serving?
Ingredients are listed on the product in descending order by weight. According to the Federal food labeling guidelines, nutrients listed on the Nutrition Facts Panel may be required by law to be rounded down to zero if the amount is considered “insignificant.” For example, if a serving contains less than 0.5 grams of fat, total sugars and/or added sugars, or less than 2 milligrams of cholesterol, the values will be rounded down to zero.
Can’t you hide ingredients in “natural flavors”?
Natural flavors are mandated by the USDA and are 100% natural. They are derived from botanical sources like vegetables, fruits, and spices. Rest assured there are no chemicals, added MSG, or artificial ingredients used in any of our products. If you have concerns about any specific ingredients, please contact us.
